Kinda Pregnant (Spindel, 2025)

I honestly ask myself why I even bothered to watch this film and could not answer that question. But at least now that I have watched it, I can tell you NOT to watch it. Not only does it star Amy Schumer, but it is also a Netflix original. And the film I refer to is Netflix’s newest Kinda Pregnant (2025) directed by Tyler Spindel, and what a surprise, written by Schumer herself with co-writer Julie Paiva. Kinda Pregnant feels like Schumer’s attempt to make a comeback into the industry, and the only way for her to do so was to write her own role.

From the title itself, of course the film is going to be a ‘play’, or joke, on pregnancy. In Kinda Pregnant Schumer stars as Lainy Newton, a newly broken up with teacher, whose best friend – Kate (Jillian Bell) – just discovered she’s pregnant. Jealous of her best friend’s pregnancy, and lonely after her breakup, Lainy decides to wear a pregnancy belly. While wearing the belly, she accidentally makes new friends – Megan Taylor (Brianne Howey) – and along the way meets the man of her dreams – Josh (Will Forte).

There is no way this film could have actually been good, because why would anyone want a comedy making fun of a possibility. But what makes things worse is the script is horrendous, and the music drops are too much. There is a needless focus on the sex and sexy with the soundtrack songs chosen. The viewers are forced to see Schumer twerking in a club while wearing a fake baby bump – no one wants to see that. Shield your eyes, or just don’t watch the film, because we also get to see Lainy and Josh trying to go at it with Josh’s eyes covered.

Is there any saving grace to Kinda Pregnant? Maybe Fallon (Urzila Carlson) with her Australian accent and semi-funny one-liners. But otherwise, Kinda Pregnant only offers you annoying characters, a destructive plot, and cringe worthy moments. If you can recall any film where the character’s self-destruction makes you physically cringe or uncomfortable, you’ll find a lot of that if you watch Kinda Pregnant.

This is most definitely one of those Netflix releases that you do not need to see, and you won’t have missed anything special. I could tell you that Kinda Pregnant is streaming on Netflix from February 5th, 2025, but what would be the point?
